Bio

Nicholas H. Reese, M.A. is a highly accomplished and compassionate mental health professional dedicated to promoting psychological well-being and addressing the unique needs of diverse populations. Currently a 4th year doctoral candidate in the Combined Counseling and School Psychology program at Florida State University (APA-accredited), Nicholas specializes in culturally responsive care, evidence-based psychotherapy, and psychological assessment. His dissertation focuses on the role of hope in mitigating the impact of racial microaggressions on anxiety among Black students at predominantly white institutions, reflecting his commitment to advancing culturally informed mental health practices. Moreover, Nicholas’ educational, clinical, and research efforts have been recognized through his selection as a McNair Scholars doctoral fellow by Florida State University & McKnight Doctoral Fellow by the Florida Educational Fund.

With a Master’s degree in counseling psychology from Western Michigan University and a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies with a concentration in Multicultural Communication from Xavier University of Louisiana, Nicholas has spent nearly a decade honing his clinical expertise. Nicholas utilizes an integrative therapeutic approach including an amalgamation of cognitive behavioral, humanistic, and multicultural intervention. His diverse training spans individual, group, and couples counseling, neuropsychology, career counseling, ADHD coaching, and school-based therapy, empowering clients across the lifespan to overcome challenges related to anxiety, depression, racial trauma, career indecision, academic stress, and more.

Nicholas has a strong research portfolio with a focus on health disparities, racial microaggressions, and mental health outcomes in marginalized communities. He has held key research roles, including serving as Lab Coordinator in the G.R.O.W.T.H. Lab at Florida State University, where he contributes to developing interventions aimed at improving behavioral health outcomes amongst diverse and marginalized populations. His work has resulted in numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and research presentations at national conferences such as the American Psychological Association Convention.

Nicholas believes in the transformative power of culturally sensitive and strengths-based approaches to psychotherapy. In his practice, he integrates modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based interventions, and person-centered techniques to foster healing and resilience in his clients. His clinical approach is informed by his passion for social justice and his commitment to empowering individuals and communities to thrive.
